About The Personal Stories Project

“Personal stories are the most powerful tool we have to erase fear, give hope, and unite people.”                                                                                                                                              Shane Bitney Crone

Charles Chan Massey and Sara Christie founded The Personal Stories Project in 2012 to promote activism, advocacy and support for the LGBT community and our allies through the sharing of personal stories.

Our Mission

Our overall goal is to engage people and help change hearts and minds towards advocacy and activism.

We provide a forum for members of the LGBT community and our allies to share their own personal stories to help change hearts, minds, and lives.

We publish these stories, providing a compelling visual preview that leads to a concise and emotionally-connected experience for the reader.

We connect people with others who may have found themselves in similar circumstances.

We connect our community with charities that are meaningful to those who have had the courage to share their own personal stories with our community.

At the end of each story, you’ll find a call to action that allows you to donate, a portion of which will, in turn, be re-donated to the non-profit organization that the storyteller has requested.

Help Us Help Others

As a completely volunteer-run organization, we retain a portion of each donation to cover our administrative costs such as maintenance of this website, annual corporate filings, our e-mail accounts, and other ordinary and necessary expenses. The remainder is re-donated to other non-profit organizations that are integral to the stories that folks have shared with us.

We are always seeking volunteers who can provide pro bono professional services such filming, editing, accounting, and legal services. Please contact us at if you can provide or refer us to anyone who might be interested in donating their professional services.
