About The Personal Stories Project

“Personal stories are the most powerful tool we have to erase fear, give hope, and unite people.” – Shane Bitney Crone

The Personal Stories Project was founded in 2013 as a social media based organization that promotes activism, advocacy and support for the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community and our allies through the sharing of personal stories.

We find that the most effective and compelling personal stories are shared when the storyteller is in a comfortable, welcoming and familiar environment. That’s why we’re in the process of creating a mechanism where folks will be able to record or write their own stories and upload them directly to our website.

In the meantime you can send us an e-mail to for additional information about how to share your own story with our community.

Our Mission

Our mission is pretty simple and straight-forward: we collect and share stories from members of the LGBT community and our allies to help change hearts, minds, and lives.

– We provide a forum where people can share their own personal stories and connect with others who may have found themselves in similar circumstances.

– We collect and publish people’s stories, providing a compelling visual preview that leads to a concise and emotionally-connected experience for the reader.

– Our overall goal is to engage people and help change hearts and minds towards advocacy and activism. We also connect folks with charities that are meaningful to those that have had the courage to share their own stories.

– At the end of each story you’ll find a “call to action” that allows you to donate, a portion of which will be donated the organization that the storyteller has requested.

Help Us Help Others

As we are a completely volunteer run organization we also retain a portion of each donation to cover our administrative costs such as maintenance of this website, annual corporate filings, our e-mail accounts, and other ordinary and necessary expenses.

As we continue to grow we are also seeking folks who can provide pro bono professional services such filming, editing, accounting, and legal. Please contact us at if you can provide or refer us to anyone who might be interested in donating their professional services.

The Personal Stories Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
