From Classroom to Courtroom, Gay Advocate’s 25-year Winning Streak
September 24, 2023Final Details!
We’re looking forward to seeing you this coming Saturday, November 5th between 4 and 7 pm!
Here are a few important details:
Address:
We are located in Cathedral City off of Gerald Ford in the gated community of Rio del Sol, between Date Palm and DaVall. Our exact address is 69548 Camino Buenavida. Enter from the Gerald Ford gate, east of Date Palm.
I have left your name with the gate; if there is no attendant on duty, please ring 533 or 538 from the keypad. That will ring either Joseph or myself and we’ll buzz you in.
Look for the rainbow flag flying proudly above our front door and the Personal Stories Project step-and-repeat banner out front and you will have found the right house.
Dress:
Come comfortable and casual. This is Palm Springs Pride weekend, after all 🙂
Guest Names:
Please reconfirm any guest names that you may be bringing unless they have already registered themselves through the Facebook system, as we will be printing name badges for everyone. We will also be pre-stuffing any raffle tickets purchased in advance in the back of your name badge.
Parking:
Parking is plentiful on our street…you’ll see what I mean when you arrive 😊
Food & Beverages:
We’ll have plenty of food and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available for you to enjoy throughout the event on a self-serve basis. Special thanks to “Chef Raymar” for providing his culinary skills again this year and Equality Vines for the special tasting of their “Decision” Pinot Noir and two raffle prizes!
Event Timeline:
We’ll start at 4 pm and “officially” end at 7 pm (although I expect the party may run a little later, based on past experience). The “program” portion will happen around 5:30 pm where we’ll share a little about The Personal Stories Project, hear from James Lindquist, Director of Development from DAP Health, have our prize drawings, AND new this year a special award. We realize that there’s a lot going on since it’s Pride weekend and appreciate you joining us!
Grand Prize:
One lucky winner and their guest will enjoy 5 nights in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia! Valued at $2,500 (US), a chance to win this amazing trip can be yours for a tax deductible donation of just $200! Limited chances remain, and the winner need not be present to win. Drawing will take place at the end of our raffle prize drawings at the event on Saturday. CLICK HERE for complete details about this customized package!
Raffle Prizes, Silent Auction Items, and Donations:
This year we have some amazing raffle and silent auction items including gift bags from Canada, the Island of Kauai, and the desert’s own Brandini Toffee, hotel packages from Las Vegas, Anaheim, Manhattan Beach, and Indian Wells, artwork, and other items. CLICK HERE for more info about our raffle prizes!
Everyone who attends will receive one ticket upon arrival. Additional tickets are available for donations to The Personal Stories Project as follows: $5 for one additional ticket, $10 for three, and $25 for nine! CLICK HERE to donate and we’ll have your extra raffle tickets waiting for you! You must be present to win if your numbered ticket is drawn for one of the regular raffle prizes!
A note about donations: Although there is no charge to attend this event, you are encouraged to make a donation to The Personal Stories Project, a 501c3 not for profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
10% of all donations received in conjunction with this event will be donated to DAP Health, our focus charity for the months of October and November 2022.
As an all-volunteer organization, we retain a portion of each donation to cover our administrative costs such as maintenance of our website, annual corporate filings, our e-mail accounts, marketing, and other ordinary and necessary expenses. The remainder is donated to more than 20 other 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, including those pictured below, at the end of each year, as requested by those who share their stories and by our donors themselves.
Thank you for helping us help others!
Focus Charity:
We are honored to once again have DAP Health, formerly Desert AIDS Project, as our focus charity. Founded in 1984 by a group of community volunteers in the face of the AIDS crisis, DAP has been the Coachella Valley’s primary not-for-profit resource for those living with, affected by, or at-risk for HIV or AIDS. Today, they are a Federally Qualified Health Center with the goal of improving the overall health of our entire community, especially the disenfranchised. DAP provides comprehensive, culturally competent, quality primary and preventative health care services including; primary medical care, HIV and Hepatitis specialty care, dentistry, behavioral health and social services all-under-one-roof. Clothing and Toiletry Drive:
We’re also collecting “gently used” clothing which we’ll take to to DAP’s partner Revivals following our event. Revivals donates 100% of their profits, over $1 million a year, to support comprehensive medical and mental healthcare at DAP Health. DAP also gives Revivals gift cards to their clients in need to purchase clothing items. Additionally we’re also collecting hygiene items (hotel/travel sized shampoo, conditioner, lotions, toothpaste, etc.) as well as toothbrushes, razors, combs, etc. as well as kits (airline business class amenity kits, makeup bags, and similar) to stuff them in. Each December we assemble and deliver them to DAP for distribution to their clients in need. We’ll have a clearly marked area where you can drop your donations on arrival. Thanks in advance!
