Josh – My Pride Story

“I came out as gay to close friends and family when I was 14 years old. My family struggled with it, and worried about my future, health, and wellbeing. With their support and love over the years I have managed to overcome a lot, and I recognize the privilege that has helped me get to where I am in life. As we continue to celebrate more victories towards equality this Pride has reminded me again that we must continue to empower and center the struggles of the most vulnerable in LGTBQIA+ communities, especially people of color, in order to achieve true justice for everyone. As a gay white man I struggle with how I can be an effective and supportive ally without overstepping. The other day I was at Target (socially distanced) and saw a children’s book with two dads on the cover. I strongly connected with that image. I teared up. I felt validated. I want everyone to have a feeling of prideful joy and validation in their authenticity, and I want to know how I can help make that happen.” Josh from San Francisco. #PersonalStories
