Makana – My Pride Story

“I came out 6 years ago. I spent decades of my life thinking I wasn’t worth the emotional labor that that process would take. Then I finally did it and spent years of my life processing the guilt over not doing it sooner.
If I could go back in time and give myself a pep talk, I’d say, ‘You are incredibly worth it. You can and should take up space. Your size is nothing to be self conscious of. All of that IS YOUR POWER…your identity, your ability to love, the attention you draw…ALL OF IT.’
It’s only been 6 years and I finally feel like I’m stepping into my authenticity. Once I started leaning in (don’t get it twisted, it’s still a process) the doors started opening. I’m now the LGBTQ+ Liaison for the 8th largest county in the country. My work and friendships are rooted in my identity. What can I accomplish in the next 6?! Let’s get out there, friends, and TAKE UP SOME SPACE.” Makana from San Diego. #PersonalStories
